Dental Emergency Tips fo Fast Action
When a Dental Emergency happens, there is a short window of time to access dental care if you want to minimise the long-term damage to your teeth and gums. Whether you’ve been in an accident or you are experiencing dental pain, the best thing that you can do is call our team to schedule an emergency dentist appointment.
Don’t Postpone Emergency Treatment
The phone call is the first step so that we can discuss your problem and offer recommendations for treatment. We will schedule an appointment and provide suggestions for immediate steps that need to be followed before the exam and treatment. Here are a few common things to keep in mind when a dental emergency occurs:
- Control the Bleeding: If the gums or teeth are bleeding, then it is important to stop the bleeding as soon as possible. Gauze can be placed over the damaged area, then apply a little bit of pressure and the bleeding should stop within about 10 minutes. In a situation where heavy bleeding is present, the best solution is to go to an emergency room as quickly as possible.
- Knocked Out Tooth: When a tooth incurs damage, and it falls out of your mouth, be careful with the way you pick it up. Hold the tooth by the crown and avoid touching the root. The tooth needs to be brought to your appointment, and you should keep it moist by placing it in water or milk.
- Toothache: Sometimes, emergency treatment is needed because of a toothache. In this situation, try rinsing with warm water and use dental floss to clean around the tooth. When food is caught between the teeth, then the pain might subside after the cleaning. If the pain persists, then call us for an appointment.
- Broken or Chipped Teeth: Save the portions of the tooth that are broken, keeping them in water or milk if possible. Place a cold compress on the outside of the mouth to reduce the pain and minimise
